Welcome to advocacy

Speech Pathology Australia believes that all people with communication and swallowing needs should have timely access to safe, high-quality speech pathology care.

How we represent you

We advocate on behalf of members and consumers to influence policy development, and legislative and regulatory reforms to reflect the needs and priorities of our members and people with communication and swallowing needs.

We engage directly with Members of Parliament, Senators and key stakeholders such as government policy developers, decision makers and the various sectors where our members work. We also advocate through policy consultation forums, formal submissions, the media and social media.

National advocacy priorities

In alignment with our strategic plan and commitment to serving the largest number of members and consumers across Australia, we focus our national advocacy efforts on four key priority areas. These areas represent significant and ongoing national reviews and reforms.

How you can become involved

  • SPA periodically consults members on advocacy-related matters through surveys and special interest groups.
  • You can share our social media advocacy posts to enhance the reach and impact of our messages.
  • You can also engage in ‘grass roots’ advocacy in your community by contacting your local political representatives. Use this search to identify your representatives in the Federal Parliament, and find their contact details (search by name of representative, postcode, or electorate).

Submissions

  • We regularly make formal submissions to consultations and write letters to key advocacy targets. These are informed by SPA’s strategic objectives and feedback from members and consumers.
  • Access our submissions here
