Even after they’ve moved on to new opportunities, every Avantee leaves their mark on our culture. Ricky, we’re proud of everything we did together and we know you’ll keep thriving! You’re in the Avant Alumni Club for life.

What’s it like to work @Avant? We asked Ricky for his take on our culture, and here’s what he said:
1. How would you describe Avant’s culture?
Avant is a great, great place to work. I’ve been here since 2017—feeling like an elder statesman at this point—and I do love the place. It’s such a diverse company, which really makes a difference in our camaraderie and ability to work together. There is also a lot of inclusivity, lots of opportunities to be involved in the culture, and those things go a long way in making this a fun place to work.
It’s also an environment where I feel comfortable asking questions and never felt stupid for not knowing something. I’m thinking back to when I started here, on the Originations team. My manager noticed that I wasn’t meeting the app processing quota, so she set me up with people who could teach me how to process applications more efficiently. I’ve seen that over and over as I’ve taken on new roles on new teams. There are always people who want to help support your success.
2. Why are you happy/successful here?
At Avant, there is a flexibility that encourages you to take your career in any direction you want. Exploring different roles is not intimidating. For example, when it was time for me to move on from my first role in Originations, I joined the Credit Card team right as we were launching that product. That team’s comfort with asking questions, trying, and learning enabled us to work through the growing pains and get that product up and running. And look at what Credit Card is doing now! I’m really proud of that.
To this day, I’m always growing. I know that what I’m learning in my current position will help me be successful in my next one, and it feels like there’s no ceiling for me here. Honestly, I feel like this will be the last company I work for! There are just so many opportunities within Avant.
3. What’s a superpower you get to apply at your job?
My superpower is my communication and people skills. I might be focused on 10 things at a given time, and my ability to break the ice, be genuine, and offer real help to people goes a long way. I’ve created some great relationships here at Avant, and I feel like a lot of that is because I’m approachable. If I can answer your question, I’m going to, and if I don’t know the answer, I’m definitely gonna point you in the direction to get it. People know I’m easy to talk to.
4. When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a sportscaster. I have such a deep love for sports, and I always wanted to do something that allowed me to be around people and communicate.
